the shape of the semester to come

Hans says; hey ya dungles! this semester is almost over. i cannot wait. i feel like i have been massively unproductive. my book project is slowly creeping along (probably going to take all of next semester, and my video class yielded very little. a couple weeks ago while david was visiting i had an idea for a new project to get my brain juices flowing. so i shot a couple of frames to test ideas. next semester i will be doing something like this probably printed really really big. like three or four feet sized sheets of paper! in the dorkroom! i am excite! mission accomplished! here is david looking good and olivia kind of not looking as great because i left out part her face out (sorry). bla bla blablaas..a.

actually i changed my mind. i like both of these.

also fun fact for the day: humanity has successfully photographed a DNA double helix, and by "a" i mean 7 because the electrons coming off the microscope would destroy a single chain. this is pertinent to my intrest in science and photography. enjoy the article (below the photos just so you cant skip to the good stuff) if you also find this interesting, or if you are bored, or if you want to not do whatever it is that you are currently doing, which is for some reason reading David and my blog.

Boring Butterflies

Hans and I went to Natural Bridges over the weekend. Tons of people were there for the butterflies. I was there to help alleviate my personality order, boredom, which is making me boring. As part of my therapy, I must go do things, and remain witty and honest, when possible. It is a mad world. Here are three photos, two with Han’s backside and some ethereal looking plant shot. As I was creating this post, I saw Han's anger at not being able to see Quicksand in January. Boredom is death. Anger is a gift. Torn between.

Hans Says: its Davids birthday. Today he marks the end of his health care, and his 26th rotation around the sun. which is more important? No one can say for sure, but what I can do is show y'all some lumen prints I did this summer while I was on tour. Kelp from the atlantic, Panties stolen from a kmart in Holyoke Massachusetts (birthplace of volleyball), and some plants (from Maine I believe)

David says, "While in the Haight with my roommates on Halloween, I snapped a few of my roommate Keith in front of some dope graffiti. I really like it. Nothing else needs to be said. I am going to Francisco to see Hans, Bobby, and Zach shortly. Take care."

Well I'm going down again

David says, "Whenever my iPod gets screwed up, it resets to the first song in alphabetical order, Cold World's A-Alikes. My former roommate Mike would always get a kick out of it. I thought of this because as I was driving down to Santa Cruz on Saturday for my friend Eric's party that night, which is who the photo is of, and my dentist appointment on Monday, the iPod did just that. It reset and I was, "going down again," to Santa Cruz, so I messaged Mike, and he said he was in Napa. Anyhow, I had fun and I feel good..."

Hans says; i just got some film returned from the end of summer. my color film usually takes a while to get processed. here are three photos from three different places and times. the first is an Ojai sunset featuring the famous "pink moment". the second photo is a self portrait capturing myself soaking in the only direct sunlight my room ever gets. unfortunately i am usually asleep so i never actually get to see it. the third photo is an art installation at black rock city nevada at around 7:30 and D?

New Process

Hans Says: The other day I cut up some ortho litho film into 4x5 sheets and shot some people in the photo studio. its around iso 4 so its super long exposures. its going to be a lot of fun to experiment with.

Cuppa Joe

David says, "I was in San Francisco with my new roommate Joe who took over Caroline's room recently. This is him dressed as a cowboy. He works at a coffee shop/patisserie and brings home baked goods regularly. I like the chocolate chip muffins or maybe they're brownies. Whatever, they're good and I like to eat them. Joe serves Joe and scones."

Roommate Relations

David says, "First and second are my former roommate Steven lying on the couch in my urban-farmed backyard and a more straightforward revealing portrait of him in what was our, now, my kitchen. Next in the third photo, same kitchen, is my roommate Chef Ben. Chef Ben’s sister is fourth, in concert with her band, The Cabin Project. Chef Ben leased his room out to the subject of the fifth photo, driver Keith, who is driving from our house to San Rafael to do laundry and amass his food presents… boom.”

 

Hans says: It has been a while. As i type i am scanning negatives from tour this summer. i still have a few more rolls to develop, but when i am done i should have around 1000 photos to go through. Here is a preview of what is to come. i guess. rough scans. also to scan are photos from burning man, although there are not that many of them. 

I don't know where I'm going, but I'm on my way.

David says: Recently, I went to Burning Man. My friend Al kept telling me I have to go so he arranged a ticket and I picked it up. A week later, Hans tells me he might be going. We both ended up there and it was a fun and interesting experience. Anyhow, I took some photos one of the last day's. Here's Keith who I drove with looking for coffee, and Al who drove from Jersey spotting a cheetah or something like that...

Pretty neat

David says: While making this blog post, I had my friend Alex on the phone. He told me many things and told me about his blog. Here is Hans and Travis at the tail end of the Fell To Low tour in San Francisco; I made them look pretty very quickly. Messed with a photo of Travis from that San Francisco show to create the second... made it look how it does because something in my head said I've seen similar, old punk photos.

Hans says: Just got back from tour with fell to low. i took a thousand photos with my film cameras. ill be posting a bunch when i develop them in september. for now here is an old negative i just scanned of Skin Like Iron in Santa Cruz with my Pentax 645 with Kodak vp5 film. Here is also a photo of Zoe getting forcibly flossed. Mamiya 6. pan f iso 50. underexposed by one stop. 

Oregon

Hans says; I just got back from 10 days in Oregon and Washington. Here are a couple photos from Oregon on my new camera that broke right after these were taken. The first photo is of some cattle we were rustlin, the second is Zoe mid teeth clean, and the third is three shots that I super haggardly put together in photoshop.

Hans says: holy shit i am finally done with my final project for one of my classes. actually both of them, but here is one of them. 27 11x14 prints mounted on drywall molding. My next project starts on June 15th with the Fell to Low tour, but ill be shooting up in the northwest for the next 10 days starting saturday, so hopefully ill have some stuff to post when i get back, but also right before i leave again. i am already tired.

David says: Hans got the tickets. Mike drove. I tried shooting some stuff on our way. I like it.

Hans Says; Here is a picture from a little while ago. 6cmX12cm pinhole holga image. David is actually in this shot. Where's Waldo style. I am so god damn close to finishing my final project. This is to tide yall over. Also I have a new camera in the mail, and I can Hardly wait to go shoot it. Hopefully this weekend ill get to shoot, and upload by next thursday. 

Monterey ~ Mike

David says: I messed around with a photo from Monterey, played with the three parts contrast and brightness, sharpened it a little bit, then I cropped it to the aesthetically appealing 8x10. The other two are of my roommate Michael. I got funky and did whatever I felt like in Bridge. I justify my messing around with his pictures because he got the pretty shirtless photo a few posts ago.
